PVB & EVA Film Moisture
Maintaining Proper Moisture Control
Both PVB interlayer film and EVA interlayer film are ways of making laminated glass, used largely for the automotive and architectural industries. They are very sensitive to moisture and require great care in the processing.
Moisture is the most critical measurement in the production process of PVB & EVA film, but other measurements are also important. For example; PVB and EVA film thickness, this is important due to the fact that moisture level needs to be lower than a critical % and small differences in the film thickness could make all the difference to whether the product lies within specification or not.
Measure Moisture in Real Time
PVB producers have been very successful in reducing out-of-spec products by installing the MoistTech IR3000 NIR sensor. The new sensor provides a continuous accurate measurement of PVB film overall moisture ranges as low as .0% to 1% with ppm accuracy. By physically passing the laminated product through the IR beam, the manufacturer can instantly monitor the moisture level, the film thickness, and the temperature.
non-contact
Our equipment never comes into contact with the product, allowing for less waste
zero drift
Our sensors are guaranteed not to drift over time – which saves time and money
closed loop
Create a closed-loop process by tying a moisture sensor into your PLC. Full control over the line!
no recalibrations
We’ve mastered the art of moisture sensors – your unit will never need to be recalibrated for the same product twice!
Profits and Efficiency
Typical moisture accuracy is about +/-0.05%, coating accuracy varies from 0.1 to 0.01 micron depending on coating type. Typical analog range is 0-10% moisture and up to as much as 40%, subject to application. The outputs can be adjusted to optimize PLC or recording requirements.
Efficiency is a top of the line priority for manufacturers and the dryer can drain a lot of that. Measuring the moisture before and after the dryer allows the user to optimize the dryer settings to save time and money. A proper moisture control system will pay for itself with the energy savings from the dryer in less than 30 days. Efficiently controlling the dryer within the facility can drastically change the productivity levels.
Installation Points
Locate the point in the production process in which measuring moisture will be the most crucial and beneficial. Identify how you will use the moisture measurement data for improvements and if it will tie into your PLC.
Remember this could involve more than one installation point!
