Bagasse Moisture

Near-Infrared Moisture Testing

Bagasse is the fibrous leftovers of sugarcane or sorghum stalks after they are crushed to get the juice. These leftovers are used for biofuel or in the manufacture of pulp and building materials. For every 10 tons of sugarcane crushed, nearly 3 tons of wet bagasse is produced. The use of bagasse in the sugar industry helps to create a biofuel that recycles our waste products into bioenergy. It is often burned to provide energy to the sugar mills. However, bagasse moisture content is often quite high, usually about 40-50%, is detrimental to its use as a fuel. Drying the bagasse can significantly enhance its energy production.

Determining the moisture content to know the suitability of the bagasse for fuel becomes important. MoistTech provides moisture sensors to monitor the moisture content during the drying process.

Optimize Production with Instant ROI

Accuracy and Consistency

The IR-3000’s moisture sensor calibrations, measurement wavelengths, algorithms, and sensor optical requirements to measure bagasse moisture are pre-set at the factory. No further on-site or routine re-calibration is necessary, making accuracy in the field nearly effortless.

Typical moisture content of bagasse is about ± 0.05%; typical analog range is 0-10% moisture. The outputs can be adjusted to optimize PLC or recording requirements.

#bagasse moisture measurement

non-contact

Our equipment never comes into contact with the product, allowing for less waste

zero drift

Our moisture sensors are guaranteed not to drift over time – which saves time and money

closed loop

Create a closed-loop process by tying a moisture sensor into your PLC. Full control over the line!

no recalibrations

We’ve mastered the art of moisture sensors – your unit will never need to be recalibrated for the same product twice!

The Best of the Best

For over 40 years, our expert staff has been assisting companies around the world with real-time moisture readings that make a difference in their products. We will be glad to answer all your questions about bagasse moisture measurement.

Installation

The IR-3000 near infrared (NIR) online moisture detector and software system was designed to measure the moisture at any point in the bagasse drying process. You can avoid over drying because the sensor provides non-contact measurement, allowing moisture to be monitored in real time. The IR-3000 is mounted above your production line. By using the IR-3000 to optimize process control, you can expect improved product quality, increased productivity, and decreased production costs.
